The symbol of my collection is the extraordinary Ornithoptera Alexandrae, the largest butterfly in the world, with a wingspan of up to 28 cm. This extremely rare butterfly can only be found in New Guinea. It is under strict protection.

FRYDERYK CHOPIN ALREADY HAS HIS OWN BUTTERFLY!
Did you know that there is a butterfly named after Fryderyk Chopin? It is called Lasiophila frederici. This special butterfly was discovered high up in the foggy Andes mountains of Peru during an international scientific expedition.
Professor Tomasz Pyrcz from the Jagiellonian University, who led this expedition, wants to celebrate the incredible magic and power of Chopin’s music. Because it is the anniversary of the International Chopin Piano Competition, he has the wonderful idea to name the butterfly after the composer to show that Chopin’s talent flies across the whole world. As an elegant gesture, he proposed three potential names and selected the final scientific title after a consultation with the Fryderyk Chopin Institute.
